First, to be fair, the author’s make some mildly helpfull points. However, anyone who has spent even a few hours interviewing builders and/or architects will already be familiar with most of the points made. The book is very brief. Only the first 30 pages are actual text. The remainder of the book is example forms (4 copies of each to add girth to book, no doubt). I should think that anyone, after building one home, could write as well or better.

My neighbors had some work done on their house and it ended up being quite a disaster. I saw this book advertised locally and bought it. I can pretty safely say that we eliminated some contractors because of the book that we might have hired. The one we did hire met all of the qualifications outlined in the book and we have a beautiful addition to prove it. I know that because of many things in the “pitfall” book we had a good remodeling experience. John Francis

I bought this book to further my education. I am in the business and was curious about what was being told and sold to consumers. This book is a joke. Seem like a plot to scare you away from building your own home. Trust me, the process is much simpler then this book describes it; slightly intimidating at first, but much more simple.

This is an excellent resource for the IT contractor or someone entering the IT businees. As some one who does IT contracting I found that the section on “Effectively Improving Your IT Market Value” especially useful. This is one area that I need to work on for personal growth and this book shows how. Highly recommended.

as professional contractor, I can tell you that if you’re looking for a book to provide the latest building techniques using the latest materials, look elsewhere. It does provide management info, but in a word:lame.

The side-by-side English-Spanish layout of Casa Construction is great, which makes it easy to reference English and Spanish words.
Devloo's descriptions of construction concepts are relevant and helpful. Diagrams and labeled photos are great learning tools.
I'm taking the book with me anytime I need to meet with Spanish-speaking contractors.

I highly recommend Casa Construction, Exterior!

My husband and I are building a house in Costa Rica and our builder speaks excellent English, but we wanted a way to speak directly to subs on the job. Also, our architect, who speaks only minimal spanish, wanted to make sure that he was communicating his ideas completely to engineers and sub-contractors. Casa Construction was the perfect solution! It is easy to use and very complete in its handling of common construction practices. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is building a house in Latin America–or even here in the USA where communication can still be a big issue.
